This timber lattice wrapped structure provides movement throughout the day and layered interest at night. The Rectorat de Guyane Library designed by Paris Studio RH + Architecture is located in French Guiana. The spaces inside are playful, flexible, and full of life.

The exterior wall is constructed of narrow slats of timber creating a brise soleil that diffuses light onto the interior wall made of concrete. This wall hearkens back to the Nortre Dame du Haut by Le Corbusier with punched openings with bright colors visible inside. This open air space is used as a gallery and is a shading device for the buildings main mass. This concept brings beauty to the structure, enhances the experience of light and shadow, and reduces the environmental impact on the surroundings.

#105architecturalinspirations is a collection of architectural details, buildings, and spaces that inspire me. I am taking on the challenge of finding two projects to spotlight each week in 2015. Hopefully I will be able to keep up and this process of discovery will push me to create better design solutions for my clients as I research and learn more about those projects I enjoy most. I challenge you to add your comments below about this project and to post your own inspirations for all to enjoy.  Full List of previous #105architecturalinspiration posts 1 – 20. First 20 architectural inspirations here21.
