The Craftsman

The Craftsman

The Classic Foursquare evokes memories of your grandma’s house from the moment you lay eyes on the covered porch.  Walk through the front door of the craftsman and the feeling becomes even stronger because of the archetypical foursquare layout.  The central stair greets you the moment you enter the large foyer and the more formal spaces flank either side.

Passing through to the less formal areas of the home where one would expect to find white porcelain enameled steel cabinets and a wood stove, you are instead welcomed into a modern kitchen and great room where you can kick off your shoes and relax around the wood burning masonry fireplace.  Those who don’t wish to haul wood can enjoy the same ambiance with optional gas logs.  The large rear deck is accessed from here as well.

The kitchen features casement windows over the sink which can be cranked open to let in natural light and plenty of fresh air without straining your back.  Turn around, and you will see the built-in desk and generous pantry.  When stocking the pantry, the shopper can enter the mud room via the covered service porch which is large enough to keep a stack of firewood dry.

Amble up the stairs and you are greeted by a large upstairs hall that mimics the foyer below.  There are two small anterooms at the top of the stairs which conceal three bedrooms, the hall bath, and a generous laundry room that has enough space to set up an ironing board.  Moving toward the front of the house, there is enough room to relax or supervise the kids as they study or play on the computer.  Off of this area, is the owner’s retreat.  The master bath features his and hers vanities with drawer storage, a generous glass shower stall, and a soaking tub that can be jetted to soothe away those aches and pains.

At 2,808 square feet, this home is ideal for raising children and can be configured with an optional walk-up attic for older kids’ enjoyment.  Certainly it will leave its younger residents with happy memories of home.
