Kimbell Plan

Make a statement while maintaining a small footprint with the Kimbell house.  Upon seeing this house, the most unique feature is the curved barrel vault roof.  Utilized since the Etruscan times, barrel vaults have been used in both traditional Roman construction, and in a more modern aesthetic, such as their use in the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth.  This house utilizes the curved roof over a stone and corrugated metal base, pulling both from traditional and more modern materials.  The curve is then replicated in the outdoor stoop and patio areas, creating unique outdoor spaces.  The shapes may be simple, but they interact to form a truly dynamic structure.

This 2 bedroom, 2 bath house falls just over 1100 square feet, but the layout and abundance of natural light makes it seem much larger.  The single level living area and walk-in shower, make it a very appropriate house for aging in place.  The great room maintains a sense of openness and connectivity between the kitchen, living, and dining spaces, yet a few strategically placed walls help to visually divide the spaces.  A generous laundry room provides necessary storage space, and the long counter space provides plenty of surface area for folding and sorting.  Both bedrooms have large windows, filling the rooms with light, and both have separate access to outdoor patios.  The master bath contains a large tiled walk-in shower, and plenty of counter space, allowing for a luxury bath experience in the home’s tiny footprint.

The perfect home for those trying to maintain an eco-friendly small footprint without sacrificing modern amenities, the Kimbell delivers a unique and aesthetically pleasing solution.
