On this day: Pandemic, Politics, Survival, Home School, Small Business, and remembering to make dinner

On this day life is hard. We are each not in the same boat as I have heard so many say. Some of us have a nicer boat than others. Some of us have a boat with a hole in it. Some of us don’t have a boat at all, but are holding to the hope of something floating by to hang on so we can rest for just a moment.

On this day we are all looking for ways to cope. One of my coping strategies is to write my thoughts. Sometimes they get posted to my blog and sometimes I just write. So on this day I am releasing some of my worry by writing it down. On this day I am sharing my fears.

I am worried that I am not doing enough. I am worried I cannot do more.

On this day I am worried about another week of home school. Am I giving enough flexibility to make this constructive time for my girls? Am I giving them too much access to the internet for their own safety? Am I supporting them in a way that they will come out of this life changing time healthy and happy? Am I allowing too much time watching screens to just decompress? Am I pushing them enough to take this time to explore interests? Am I doing enough as a father that is learning how to home school?

I am worried that I am not doing enough. I am worried I cannot do more.

Steel Wheels

On this day I am disappointed in the amount of time I am spending helping potential voters understand how I make decisions and the values I hold. I have written a few times on my Facebook page and I have outlined the important to me topics for the future of this city on my web page. However, in these times it seems there is not enough time for everything. I thought I would be spending my Spring days walking door to door talking, hosting meet and greet events, and answering your questions.

I am worried that I am not doing enough. I am worried I cannot do more.

On this day I am worried about my small business. I am looking for all resources to help with survival. I am doubling down on work spending even more time trying to survive than I was trying to thrive. I am looking for new places to earn money that maybe was a fringe service before. I am also looking at all expenditures that I am making. Is there anything I can cut to survive longer? I am putting my employees pay and health insurance first. I am filling out loan and grant applications to save my small business. I am working from waking up to falling asleep trying to offer resources to our community, volunteer when I can safely, support local business, and maintain my own business.

I am worried that I am not doing enough. I am worried I cannot do more.

On this day, I am asking myself to take a moment to be thankful for all I have no matter how much or little it seems. I know I am beyond blessed with all the resources that exist in my life. I am thankful for the blessings in my life.

On this day, I am asking myself to pray for those Doctors and Nurses that have been working non-stop to save those impacted directly by this virus in our community. Pray for those working in an environment that puts there own health at risk. Pray for those giving up time with their families to save others.

On this day, I am asking myself to pray for all those working hard to keep our city running from grocery clerks, cleaning crews, sanitation workers, local restaurant owners, cooks, and servers, government employees, and truck drivers.

On this day, I am praying for each one of you. I am looking forward to the future. I am looking forward to not asking if I am doing enough because we have proven once again that we are resilient and if we come together we can overcome any obstacle.

On this day I am looking forward to remembering to not only worship, work, rest, clean, but also to remembering to make dinner. Because on this day, the girls and I will be hungry and we are blessed to have food to share together.

On this day.
