Green Term Define – Solar Thermal

Solar Thermal technology uses the sun’s energy, rather than fossil fuels, to generate low-cost, environmentally friendly thermal energy.

This energy can be used to heat water or other fluids. Solar Thermal systems are not the same as solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems.

The advantages of a solar thermal system include reduced utility bills and a reduced carbon footprint.

How a Solar Water-Heating system works:

  1. Solar thermal collectors on a roof or other structure absorb solar energy.
  2. Fluid in the panel is circulated through the collectors by a energy-efficient pump that delivers heat to a water storage tank.
  3. The solar tank offers a reserve of heated water that can then be used within the structure.
