How can Revit be used to save money and create a better design solution?

Autodesk Revit is a building information modeling software for architects, an all-in-one software platform that combines all necessary attributes to streamline the architectural process.
You might wonder “What’s the difference between AutoCAD and Revit?” Revit is a 3D modeling tool, while AutoCAD is a 2D drafting tool. The main benefits of using Revit is the collaboration aspect. While most platforms only allow one person to work on a project at a time, Revit has cloud work-sharing. This allows real-time collaboration among team members without necessarily being in the same office. On Revit, the user creates a model and from there it is very easy to get the necessary sections, elevations, and details that the project calls for.
The platform contains rendering capabilities, the option to format documents for permit readiness, and multiple other aspects that shorten the overall time needed on a project.
Revit also has a very large online presence so if a project calls for a certain product, it is very easy to incorporate that into the overall design.
Revit can even provide extra capabilities like energy analysis or can be used for qualities and cost estimating. Having everything on one platform improves accuracy and efficiency.
Overall, Revit might cost upfront but will save the company, the designer, and the client in the long run.

We have had the honor of working with the on several projects at their Verona and Charlottesville locations. In Charlottesville a few years ago we were able to support an interior renovation to allow for more office spaces and to brighten up the warehouse space.
Last year, we returned to the facility to help solve a space need they were having for additional freezer capacity. After receiving a grant, they were able to add an outdoor freezer that doubled their capacity. As you probably know already the need in our community continues to rise so the storage needs at the facility continues to grow. In order to protect the freezer we were tasked with designing a canopy to cover the new and existing freezers. This will help extend the life of the equipment allows them to operate a little more efficiently.
The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank is a non-profit organization that works to alleviate hunger in the Blue Ridge region of Virginia. Their mission is to improve food security through equitable access to good nutrition and the resources that support health and well-being. They cover 25 counties and 8 cities through our region which accounts for the millions of pounds of food they make available annually.

We’re excited to introduce you to our newest Designer, Emily Scognamillo.
Emily started in our Charlottesville office in November 2024 after graduating from Virginia Tech School of Architecture having earned both a B.ARCH degree in architecture and a B.S. in Business Marketing.
In Emily’s spare time, you’ll find her hanging out with her family or finding a quiet space to read away from her three older brothers. When asked about something – big or small – she’s really bad at, she said she’s really bad at keeping a beat or a rhythm, blaming her dad for passing it down to her! On the other hand, she’s got a hidden talent for being able to draw anything with any media – we’re sure that talent adds to her skills as a designer.
In the future, Emily wants to visit Italy and discover her Italian roots, adding to her travel experience from visiting Ireland in college. She spent a semester abroad but was never quite able to make it over to Italy.
We’re excited for what Emily is going to bring to the team!

Paul sent us an update on the Haiti Eating Pavilion project he worked on with Dave Wheatley.
Dave is a carpenter that attends church with Paul at
Charlottesville First United Methodist Church. He approached Gaines Group Architects to provide a rendering for fundraising and awareness purposes and structural consultation for an eating pavilion. Dave is a project team leader that travels to Haiti to help build a variety of projects for churches in Haiti. He operates through a group called
FrIends of Fort LIberte. .
