43. Headwaters by #105architecturalinspirations
Headwaters is described as a urban-hip and techno-savvy, community located in Portland. I describe is as very cool! The architects, Vallaster Corl Architects, PC, blend natural materials in with vibrant colors and nature. Completed in 2007, this pedestrian friendly community consists of 100 units that are market rate, 56 affordable senior units, and 14 town homes. Sustainable strategies incorporated into this project include day-lighting, naturally ventilated corridors, and energy-efficient lighting, heating, and appliances.
GreenWorks did the landscape design for this project at the headwaters of Tryon Creek. Daylighting a steam that had been buried in the past has brought nature into this dense development and created a wonderful space for nature to exist and residence to exist within it. What an incredible apartment community to have a “backyard” with a stream, trees, birds….
#105architecturalinspirations is a collection of architectural details, buildings, and spaces that inspire me. I am taking on the challenge of finding two projects to spotlight each week in 2015. Hopefully I will be able to keep up and this process of discovery will push me to create better design solutions for my clients as I research and learn more about those projects I enjoy most. I challenge you to add your comments below about this project and to post your own inspirations for all to enjoy. Full List of previous #105architecturalinspiration posts 1 – 20.
