Harrisonburg Architect’s project is the backdrop for visit by the Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack
Harrisonburg, VA – On October 28, 2010 the Secretary of Agriculture visited a home in Yancey Mills to highlight efforts by the Federal Government to encourage energy efficiency. This home renovation designed by Charles Hendricks of The Gaines Group, PLC was able to reduce energy consumption by over 40%. This visit marks the second time that Mr. Hendricks has gained national attention for energy efficient design from the Federal Government having also been an invited speaker at the Department of Energy in January 2010. Mr. Hendricks is one of the top Green Architects in Virginia, his firm receiving the 2008 Virginia Sustainable Building Network “best green designer” award and a 2008 and 2009 Va. Governor’s Environmental Excellence Award for their leadership in green design. His approach to common sense sustainable architectural solutions allows his clients to save money while living healthier.
Mr. Hendricks and his firm, The Gaines Group, PLC designed the first LEED Certified project in Central Virginia in 2005 and continues to lead the industry having designed the first Industrial LEED Certified project in Central Virginia in 2008, multiple EarthCraft Certified homes, the first EarthCraft Light Commercial Project outside the state of Georgia, a net-zero energy home, a LEAP pilot project home renovation, and is working as the LEED consultant on the first LEED Platinum project in Central Virginia. He has been an invited speaker at the Department of Energy, University of Virginia, Piedmont Virginia Community College, James Madison University, Blue Ridge Community College, and for the Shenandoah Valley Partnership. He serves as the chairman of the SVBA Green Building Committee, the Immediate Past President of Central Virginia Construction Specifications Institute, and is an active member of the American Institute of Architects.
The Gaines Group, PLC is an architecture firm with offices in Harrisonburg and Charlottesville focused on common sense green architectural solutions.
